Maria Walsh says love of the west inspired her political ambition

Former Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh says he love of the west of Ireland and her interest in mental health issues are two of the main reason for her decision to seek the Fine Gael nomination for the European elections.

Maria who’s a native of Shrule in Mayo announced her intention to try to enter politics at the weekend.

The LGBT activist has said running for Fine Gael was an easy decision as the party aligns with her core values.


Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning Maria says her affinity with the west of Ireland and her recent work in schools and with other agencies to promote mental health has inspired her to try to do more for her region.
