Major cycling fundraiser to help Roscommon teen battle cancer today

The efforts in north Roscommon to raise thousands of euros to enable a local teenager to undergo cancer treatment are continuing this week.

Niamh Flanagan, from Boyle, was recently diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on her pelvis bone and she intends having vital surgery in Birmingham.

A total of €75,000 is needed to cover the costs and more than €15,000 has already been raised.

Various fundraisers have been held and another one is taking place this weekend, with Curlieu Wheelers Cycling Club running a static cycle at Londis in Boyle.

Members from the club are covering a distance of 1,830 kilometres, beginning yesterday and continuing today (Saturday).

Eddie Conroy is the chairman of the cycling club.
