New figures show that hospitals that serve the Shannonside region are owed nearly €38 million in health insurance fees.
In response to a parliamentary question from Social Democrats TD Róisín Shortall, Health Minister Simon Harris revealed that, as of December 31st last, there was €224 million outstanding countrywide in private-patient claims.
Of the local facilities, the highest amount owed is to Galway university hospitals, at €21 million.
Sligo hospital’s figure is €4.4 million, slightly more than the €4.2 million outstanding at Mullingar hospital.
In the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore, health insurance fees amounting to €3.6 million are outstanding, with
Portiuncula University Hospital’s being slightly less, at €3.4 million.
Meanwhile, private-patients claims of €1.2 million are owed at Roscommon University Hospital.
