It’s hoped a fundraising event to develop the country’s first wheelchair-accessible boat for anglers will exceed its ten thousand euro target this weekend.
Tests are underway on a specially built vessel in Estonia that will allow people in wheelchairs or with mobility issues to enjoy waterways on Lough Ree.
The ‘Access for All’ project has been coordinated by the Lough Ree Angling hub and this weekend several well-known faces, as well as their scalps, will go under the blade to try and raise over €10,000 for equipment in order to aloe people boat and fish safely.
Among those getting their heads shaved include Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council Gerard Farrell and reporter Ciaran Mullooly.
