The Leyden family in Roscommon are seeking a changing of the guard in the Seanad as the campaign for the Upper House gets underway.
Fianna Fail stalwart for over 50 years, Senator Terry Leyden has this week decided that he’s to bow out, but his daughter Órla who ran for the general election is now on the campaign trail, having received a nomination for the Labour Panel.
These are outside nominations, with outgoing TD Eugene Murphy seeking an inside or Fianna Fail party nomination.
It’s also understood that Independent Councillor Nigel Dineen and Ivan Connaughton may also seek nominations with the support of Michael Fitzmaurice.
