Leitrim and Roscommon County Councils have both agreed this afternoon to agree raise respective property tax levy by 15%.
Leitrim County Councillors agreed to the move at a special meeting of the Council early this afternoon.
Executive of the Council Lar Power expressed his view that the plan is ‘necessarily ambitious to ensure Leitrim maintains its attractiveness and competitive edge in the context of the pace of development across many areas of the country’.
Councillors in Roscommon also agreed an increase in the property tax this afternoon where representatives were told that the increase would be worth an additional €600,000 to the local authority in next year’s budget.
The increase will see 57% of householders pay an extra €13.50 a year and the vote was passed by 10 votes to 8.
