There are calls for the Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council to clarify why he has changed his mind from earlier this year on the re-opening of Castlerea fire station.

Sinn Féin TD for Roscommon/Galway Claire Kerrane has described the decision as outrageous especially as Castlerea is the second largest town in the county Roscommon and holds one of the largest prisons in the State.

Deputy Keranne says that while Mr Cummins says he can make the decision under the regulation, members of the public who pay their property tax and are entitled to basic services.

She says the decision which now appear to be based on facts and figures in a report, is contrary to his clear statements on the matter in March:
