New figures show Roscommon County Council has spent nearly €532,000 on Traveller accommodation over the past three years.
Details released to Shannonside FM show the local authority’s total expenditure on Travellers in 2015, excluding central overhead, was just over €132,000.
This doubled in 2016 to €274,000, while the budget for 2017 is nearly €126,000.
The council says there are currently 112 Traveller families in Roscommon, while there are two halting sites, located in Castlerea and Ballyforan.
Seamus O’Brien, a Sinn Féin activist in Castlerea, says the council has to maintain and monitor conditions at Traveller accommodation in Roscommon.
