Just 15% of Roscommon drivers handed in licences to court after drink driving convictions

Road safety campaigners have expressed their concern at the number of motorists convicted of being drink driving but who fail to have their licences properly endorsed

According to figures released to TD Tommy Broughan, just 15% of Roscommon drivers’ licences were handed into court when they were convicted of the road traffic offence.

66% of all motorist from the county detected with alcohol in their system behind the wheel are convicted according to figures from the courts’ service.


In Leitrim, the figure is 50%, while in Longford it’s at 82%.

However, just over half of all Longford drivers convicted of being drunk behind the wheel hand in their licenses and in Leitrim it’s just 37%.
