A decision has been announced today to award a special medal to Jadotville veterans.
The men of “A” Company, 35th battalion, endured a six day siege in the Congo in 1961 during a United Nations Peace Keeping Operation.
They were also held as prisoners of war afterwards for almost a month.
The bravery of the men has not been officially recognised for many years, but their actions were finally cited last year and an official annual Jadotville memorial day has also been put in place.
