Irish Rail claims they have acted on recommendations in near-miss Knockcroghery incident

A spokesperson for Irish Rail claims they have already instituted a number of actions following a near miss between a car and a train at a level crossing in Knockcroghery in January of this year,

A rail accident investigation report published yesterday claimed that it was fortunate that a collision had not occurred between a car and train when the car had got stuck the wrong side of the level crossing barriers after failing to stop when amber and red lights started flashing to indicate the approach of a train.

The report recommended that the provision, and location of CCTV at the level crossing be reviewed and according to Irish Rail, the company has now reviewed sighting of CCTV of all 138 CCTV-controllled crossings to ensure any similar issues could be identified and to review camera positioning and other associated issues.
