Ireland must find a new solution to waste problem as China refuses to accept plastic waste

Ireland is currently facing a huge problem around waste management arising from the immediate ban imposed by China on imports of plastic and the potential threat posed by Brexit.

That’s according to MEP Mairead McGuiness, who says our waste problems will intensify unless we address the immediate challenge to plastic waste and the long term threat to the recycling of our toxic waste.

Ireland produces more plastic waste than any other EU country, and therefore, faces a real problem in disposing of this waste now that China will no longer accept plastic waste from any EU member state.

Speaking to ShannonsideFM, Mairead McGuinness, says the solution to the problem is plastic should be recyclable and we need to reduce our dependency on it.
