Hundreds of childcare workers from counties Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon are en route to Dublin this morning for a protest at low pay in the sector.
The rally is organised through The Early Years Alliance, which brings together organisations representing staff, providers and parents.
They are calling for a sustainable solution to serious issues within childcare, where recruitment and retention is at a crisis point.
Despite qualifications, Early Years educators earn just € 11.45 per hour on average, forcing many to leave the profession.
Amy Dowd is Manager of Cuan Bhride Childcare in Fourmilehouse in Roscommon – she says they haven’t taken the decision to protest lightly.
