Home-help hours slashed in Roscommon and Leitrim

Home-help hours reduced by more than 38,000 in the Roscommon and Leitrim region last year.

Details obtained by Sinn Féin show there was a reduction of 26,700 hours in Sligo-Leitrim and 11,600 hours in Roscommon.

The news has been strongly criticised by the party’s Roscommon spokesperson, Claire Kerrane, and Sligo-Leitrim TD Martin Kenny.

Home-help allows mostly elderly people assistance so they can continue to live at home.

Bernie Dowling, the Roscommon area manager for Family Carers Ireland, is calling on the HSE and the government to reverse this trend.
