GRETB Board to examine awarding of youth services in Roscommon

The Board of the Galway Education and Training Board is to look into the situation regarding the awarding of youth services in county Roscommon.

Up to 30 young people attended its headquarters in Athenry yesterday where they explained their concerns to the Chief Executive, David Leahy and members of the Board.

The young people are unhappy with the change in the provision of the services, which will see Foiroige and the Roscommon Leader Partnership takeover from Youthwork Ireland.

Board member and Ballaghaderreen Councillor Michael Mulligan says the matter will be up for discussion at the board meeting in two months time.

The controversy over the closure of the YouthWork project in Roscommon was raised in the Dail this afternoon by Roscommon-Galway TD Eugene Murphy during Leaders’ Questions :

The Taoiseach claimed he will contact the Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone to engage with the Fianna Fail representative to hear his concerns :
