Plans for an extension to the cinema in Athlone have been given the green light.
The expansion will see 1,301 square meters added onto current premises, with screens increasing from six to ten. A new 250 square meter restaurant is also proposed, which will be handed over the owners of the Golden island shopping centre once built.
The upgrade will include new Galactic screens, of large screen format and new larger seats will also be installed in all screens.
Westmeath County Council granted permission to the project, subject to seven conditions, development contributions will be set at just over 21,000, there will be restrictions on signage and no neon lights will be permitted in the new look cinema.
