A local Fianna Fail TD has described the Government’s timeframe to introduce electric cars as “totally unrealistic”.
Under new plans announced this week, the sale of petrol and diesel cars will be banned from 2030.
Under the radical climate action plan, the aim is to have 950,000 electric vehicles on our roads by that time.
But Roscommon TD Eugene Murphy says to meet the target being set every car sold in Ireland in the next ten years would have to be electric.
Also, while many consumers may be interested in changing over to an ecar they simply don’t have the choice or supply available even before considering the cost of the vehicles.
