It’s being suggested that a possible three additional candidates could be added to the race for seats in the Roscommon-Galway constituency in the coming days.
There are three seats available in Roscommon Galway, a constituency that has been redrawn to bring in 8,650 people coming from Galway East and just over 7,800 population from north Roscommon, including Boyle town leaving for Sligo Leitrim.
All three sitting TDs are seeking to retain their seat in the Dail, Independents Denis Naughten and Michael Fitzmaurice and Fianna Fail’s Eugene Murphy.
With the surprise addition of Councillor Orla Leyden this week, there are now two Fianna Fail candidates in this race.
Sinn Fein’s Claire Kerrane is returning to the campaign trail.
First-time candidates in this constituency are Julie O’ Donohoe for the Green Party, Paul Hanley for the National Party, and James Hope for Aontu.
And while Aisling Dolan was successful in her local election campaign, elected as an Independent Councillor in Ballinalsloe, she faces her first general election campaign for Fine Gael.
There are many who believe that this ticket is not complete and FG may announce a second candidate in the Roscommon area – and with until next Wednesday for candidates to official declare, there’ll be no surprise if more people eye up their chances to represent Roscommon Galway in the 33rd Dail.
