Gardai in the Shannonside region are issuing a warning to business owners to beef up their security following an aggressive robbery of a mobile phone store in Roscommon this week.
Investigations are ongoing after thousands of euro worth of phones were stolen in the raid in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Raiders smashed their way through shutters in a matter of minutes during the robbery and the riders escaped in a silver BMW which was being driven with licence plates stolen in Lanesborough on Tuesday night.
The raid was similar to a theft from a mobile shop on Shop Street in Galway last week, and Gardaí are examining if the raids may be linked. Gardai in the region are urging shop owners that crime gangs often target businesses at this time of year as shops build up stock before Christmas.
Sgt Paul McDermott has issued this advice:
