Fire services in the Shannonside region have not reported any major gorse or bog fires over the Bank Holiday Weekend despite an Orange Condition Warning issued by the Department of Agriculture.
There were a total of eight fires across Roscommon since Good Friday at Mount Allen, Keadue, Ballinlough, Boyle , Gortaganny and Arigna.
The fire brigade said though that this number is normal for the time of year and none of them were major events.
There are no reports of any major fires either in Longford or Leitrim.
Meanwhile the Irish Wildlife Trust is calling for a radical transformation in how we manage our upland landscapes after fires in others parts of the county over the weekend devastated habitats.
The Trust says that whether the latest spate of fires was caused by farmers clearing land, or acts of vandalism, a new vision is urgently required if we’re to protect the landscape, and the flora and fauna there.
