Fine Gael is expected to announce the addition of a second candidate to the Roscommon Galway constituency today.
Independent councillor in the Ballinasloe Municipal District, Aisling Dolan is expected to be confirmed to be joining the party ticket.
She will join Senator Maura Hopkins on an all women platform.
The decision is not unsurprising after the transfer of a population of 8,650 population from Galway East to Roscommon Galway constituency, which will now stretch from Addergoole and Dummore in the north to Mounthazel, Aughram Killallahgtan and Oatfield east of Ballinasloe.
Councillor Dolan achieved 1,082 first preference votes in May’s local elections, and was elected with transfers bringing her overall tally to 1,841 votes.
It was her first time running in an election, having worked with Enterprise Ireland in Dublin, she returned to Ballinasloe three years ago and is now working with NUI Galway.
