Fianna Fáil headquarters has issued a directive that only one candidate be selected at its Roscommon-Galway selection convention.
Next Friday in the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon town, more than 500 party members across the constituency will be asked to choose who they want to represent them in the next general election.
There are four candidates – TD Eugene Murphy, Councillors John Keogh and Michael Connolly and Ballintubber Seán Óg Higgins.
Though it has now emerged only one will be selected, Connolly says he won’t be withdrawing and it’s also understood both Councillor John Keogh and Seán Óg Higgins still intend contesting the selection convention.
Connolly, from Moylough, hopes being the only Galway candidate will help his chances.
