Fears for rural community centres if bingo winnings are reduced

Rural community centres could be at risk if proposed legislation on bingo winnings is introduced.

The Gambling and Lotteries Bill will see any prize money from bingo reduced to 50 per cent of funds collected by operators.

Bingo players gathered outside the Dáil highlighting their concerns that there will be a severe drop off in people attending bingo if the winnings are reduced.

Elphin councillor Valerie Byrne says community centres will also lose out if there’s a drop off in attendance.

She joined the protests today and outlines why the legislation should be opposed.
