Revolutionary Cloonfower priest features in National Exhibition “From Ballots to Bullets”

The National Library is reminding people that just a few weeks remain to be able to enjoy an exhibition featuring one of the Shannonside region’s most well known figures from the War of Independence era.

Fr Michael Flanagan, of Cloonfower near Castlerea, is one of a number of people who feature in the exhibition “From Ballots to Bullets” which has been running since last autumn and is entering its final weeks.

The priest, who became famous for both his involvement with Sinn Fein and his activities in his parish of Coolooney, is being remembered as one of the lesser celebrated Irish revolutionaries from over a century ago.

The exhibition runs until next month and Curator Nikki Ralston told Shannonside Northern Sound Fr Michael was a key man in the history of the region.
