End of era as Rosalie unit closes in Castlerea

”It’s the end of an era”

That’s the words of emotional relatives of the final residents who were moved out of the Rosalie unit in Castlerea today.

The community psychiatric is being closed by the HSE after a four year campaign by locals and families against the closure.

The Executive says that the thirteen residents’ needs would be better served in elderly care centres in the region.

The remaining two residents were moved today to Aras Mhathair Phol.

Unions representing 24 staff employed at Rosalie will meet with HSE at the Workplace Relations Commission next week to discuss their future roles.

Jean Anderson, who’s brother was being transferred says it’s a sad day.
