€2million to be shared among local groups under energy efficiency scheme

The Minister for the Environment has announced grant funding fo a number of Shannonside groups to upgrade their premises to make them more energy efficient.

Denis Naughten today confirmed €2million euro of funding for projects across Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim under the ‘Better Energy communities Scheme’.

The funding covers both domestic ‘fuel poor’ homes as well as commercial properties such as supermarkets.

Projects across Longford, Roscommon and Westmeath are to benefit from funding of just over five-hundred-and-seventy-nine-thousand euro (€579,918) while Longford has been granted just over six-hundred-and-twenty-five thousand-euro for ‘pay-as-you-save’ community building lighting.

Sustainable energy communities in Leitrim have also received just over sixty-eight thousand euro (€68,035) for projects at sites such as Mohill family support centre and Arus Carolan nursing unit.
