Works on the Monksland Wastewater Treatment Plan are hoped to be completed by December.
Irish Water is investing €2 million for essential upgrades at the plant, which is the largest in Co. Roscommon.
Once finished, works will increase capacity and allow the plant to handle increased storm water overflows.
The project, which is part of Irish Water’s 5.5 billion euro investment plan, will reportedly ensure the waste from homes and businesses meets all wastewater treatment regulations.
