Developer confident Castlerea energy plant will still proceed

The developers of the controversial waste-to-energy plant in Castlerea are confident the project will still proceed despite a setback last week.

Construction work on the €8-million facility at Tibohine, Castlerea, was essentially complete, but Roscommon County Council claims unauthorised development has taken place on site.

It has issued an enforcement notice demanding an immediate halt to the works and instructing Biocore Environmental, the developer, to remove all unauthorised elements.

But Declan Murray, the company’s operations director, is confident these obstacles can be overcome.
