Denis Naughten says he’s secured commitments for better ambulance cover for Roscommon

Roscommon Minister Denis Naughten says he has secured key improvements which will see better ambulance cover for west Roscommon.

The Minister was speaking today following the government’s approval of a new report on a trauma system for Ireland.

The Roscommon politician says he has secured a commitment for increased ambulance and air ambulance services under the system.

He says that priority will be given to areas where people live more than an hour by road from a trauma unit, and a second air ambulance for the south of the country should leave the existing service free to concentrate on this region.

Castlerea councillor Pascal Fitzmaurice has highlighted a situation in recent days where a young girl near Loughglynn had been left waiting over an hour for an ambulance to come from Sligo.

Denis Naughten says the priority given to areas furthest from trauma centres will cover the ambulance blackspot area of West Roscommon.
