Council clears tonnes of dumping in Strokestown

Almost 14 tonnes of illegally dumped waste has been cleared from near Strokestown.

Last week Roscommon County Council used a drone to fly over Culliagh at Scamogue and completed the major clean-up.

It was part of the anti-dumping initiative announced by Environment Minister Denis Naughten earlier this year.

Local councillor Joe Murphy claims the waste was dumped in Culliagh bogs last Christmas and was an eyesore.

He condemns those responsible for the illegal behaviour.
