Concerns over Tarmonbarry Garda station being addressed by Justice Minister- Murphy

Roscommon Fianna Fail Deputy Eugene Murphy says he’s been assured by Minister Charlie Flanagan that concerns about the lack of a local garda presence in the Tarmonbarry area are being addressed.

The Garda station on the Longford Roscommon border is one of seven in the constituency which were closed since 2012.

Deputy Murphy says the number of officers on the ground in the area has fallen by almost 10% over the last number of years, and fear levels have increased among the population.

He also claims that there have been a number of burglaries and attempted burglaries in the area in recent times, and that many people are now choosing not to report minor crimes as it involves travelling to another town where there is a garda station.

The Fianna Fail TD says people don’t want to see any meaningless gesture on the issue, and that a full-time Garda presence is all that will be acceptable.
