There are calls for Transport Infrastructure Ireland to reconsider the closure of the N60 Roscommon to Castlerea road for six weeks.
The road is to be closed from close to JF Hanley’s for six weeks from 16th September to the 25th October.
It’s to facilitate the realignment of the old and new road that has been constructed to eliminate a series of bends.
The alternative route is to take traffic from Roscommon to Tulsk onto Frenchpark and back into Castlerea.
Castlerea Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice says it’s too long a closure and too long a diversion which will cause huge inconvenience to a large number of motorists.
He says that that surely another way can be found to minimize disruption.
