Claire Kerrane set to be Sinn Fein’s general election candidate in Roscommon/Galway

Ballaghaderreen’s Claire Kerrane is set to be ratified as a Sinn Fein candidate for the next general election this weekend.

While an immediate election was averted earlier this week after Frances Fitzgerald’s resignation as Tánaiste, the party is still holding its Roscommon-Galway selection convention in the Durkin’s in Ballaghaderreen on Saturday night at 8 o’clock.

Sinn Féin confirms Ms Kerrane is the only candidate nominated so far, with nominations closing tomorrow.

The 25-year-old stood unsuccessfully in the last general election, but currently serves as a Sinn Fein political adviser on social protection in Leinster House.

Though Roscommon isn’t a strong area for the party, with Councillor Michael Mulligan its only elected politician, she believes she can get elected as a TD.
