Castlerea counselling service hit with funding blow

Over 250 people could lose access to counselling services in West Roscommon. Child and Family Agency Tusla has notified Cuan Aire which is based in Castlerea, that it is ceasing its support to the service.

Cuan Aire provides adult bereavement and marriage and child counselling services for people in the Castlerea, Ballaghaghadereen, Ballintubber, Williamstown and greater West Roscommon area.

It provides support to 250 people each year.

While it once received funding of up to 16,000 euro from the Family Support Agency, cutbacks had resulted in the services operating with grant aid of just 8,000 euro.

Tusla took over the administration of this funding earlier this year.

The regional office for Galway Roscommon has informed Cuan Aire that, following a review of all counselling monies provided for Roscommon, it has decided to stop funding the service.

This was the only source of funding for Cuan Aire and unless this decision is reversed, it’s likely that it will cease to operate leaving no such service for the west Roscommon area for adults.

Shannonside news has contacted Tusla for a statement on the decision to cease funding to Cuan Aire.
