Sinn Féin’s Matt Carthy has denied his party could be accused of exploiting an eviction event in Strokestown last year by holding a meeting on the issue in the town this week.
The Midlands-Northwest MEP has announced that he and Deputy Pearse Doherty will attend an event focusing on vulture funds and evictions this Thursday night in the town.
Mr Carthy says that while he thinks the location is apt for such a meeting, he isn’t trying to stir up the events of last December again.
He says the meeting is part of a series being hosted by the party across the country.
The MEP says the EU directive on vulture funds is being debated in the parliament now, and it’s very important that people are aware of the dangers.
