Calls for tourist area of Suck Valley Way to be kept intact

donamon-bridge-3-2017There are concerns in the Creggs, Kilbegnet, Castlecoote and Donamon areas of Roscommon over potential commercial developments on Coillte owned lands.

The semi state company has issued a public notice stating that it has been approached by interested parties with proposals for sustainable commercial developments on its lands and it was inviting further proposals from interested parties.

The notice asks that the proposal should include details of the nature scale and time frame and the likely financial returns to Coillte.

Councillor Orla Leyden is seeking clarification from Coillte on what is being considered, given that local landowners have been approached by a wind energy company seeking to purchase sites.

A public meeting to discuss concerns is being held in the Castlecoote Community Centre at 9 o’ clock on Monday night.

Councillor Leyden told today’s Let’s Talk that the area which is within the Suck Valley Way, is fast developing as a significant tourist trail – she’s is hoping it’s preserved to that end.
