Brazen theft in Boyle during emergency ESB work

Up to €1,500’s worth of items were from stolen diggers in Boyle as emergency repair work was carried out.

Early on Thursday morning, damage was caused to the powerline between Carrick-on-Shannon and Boyle after a lightning strike.

Carr Plant Hire staff were working for the ESB on fixing the faults and parked their vehicles overnight on Friday at Grallaghbeg, Boyle.

But at about 2am on Saturday, batteries were stolen from both of their diggers, along with a specialised ladder, while a fire extinguisher was set off.

Arigna man Jim Gaffney, who was carrying out the work, is angry with the thieves.
