Bishop Kevin Doran says Pope hasn’t ruled against married priests

The Bishop of Elphin has said he doesn’t think Pope Francis has ruled against ordaining married men in the Amazon region as a means of addressing the shortage of Catholic priests.

Bishops had backed the idea last year but the decision needed the Pope’s approval to be implemented.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning after media reports on the issue, Bishop Doran says he doesn’t see the Pope’s letter as having made any definitive response to the married priests issue.
