It's hoped this project will support job creation, address de-population and improve towns and villages in rural areas.

Fiona Monaghan, Head of Activities with Fáilte Ireland says this funding will allow the route to be developed to best international standards.

The grass roots, community-led initiative, is the largest community-based project undertaken in Ireland to date and is one of only 24 projects across Ireland to receive funding.
