Beara-Breifne Way to receive €300k funding

The Beara Breifne Way, which runs through the Shannonside Northern Sound Region is to receive €300,000 in funding from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

Fáilte Ireland has welcomed the announcement which was made by the Department of Rural and Community Development late last week.

The Beara Breifne Way, which will be Ireland’s longest distance walking trail, runs through Limerick, Tipperary, Offaly, Galway, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim before concluding in Cavan.

It’s hoped this project will support job creation, address de-population and improve towns and villages in rural areas.

Fiona Monaghan, Head of Activities with Fáilte Ireland says this funding will allow the route to be developed to best international standards.

The grass roots, community-led initiative, is the largest community-based project undertaken in Ireland to date and is one of only 24 projects across Ireland to receive funding.
