Ballintubber community set to take possession of former Garda station

The former Garda station in Ballintubber is set to be returned to the local community.

The station was one of three in Roscommon that closed in 2013 along with Ballyforan and Knockcroghery.

The local Tidy Towns group has been working with the Office of Public Works for the last number of years to have the building returned to the community.

They have maintained the building and are hoping that it may provide space for students from the US who come to the Ballintubber castle for an archeological dig each year.

Minister Kevin Boxer Moran told the launch of former councillor Tony Waldron’s local election campaign that the station would be returned to the community.

Tony Waldron told Let’s Talk that there are a number of plans for the building.
