Ballinasloe Fine Gael councillor Michael Finnerty has secured a nomination to contest the Roscommon Fine Gael selection convention next month.
The convention is set to take place in Gleeson’s in Roscommon on Friday the 12th of April and nominations for the event closed on Friday evening last.
Senator Maura Hopkins announced several weeks ago that she would be running at convention.
Last time out Fine Gael ran just one candidate in the constituency and didn’t succeed in getting a seat, and that policy was roundly condemned at the time by Councillor Finnerty.
Councillor Finnerty says he hopes that the party will have learned its lesson on this occasion and will decide to run a Galway candidate as well as a Roscommon one.
