Ballaghaderreen cigar factory to become waste facility

There are hopes of a jobs boost in Ballaghaderreen, with the news a waste company headed by the managing director of Barna Recycling has bought the former cigar factory in the town.

The Exclusive Cigar Manufacturing Ireland plant closed recently, with the loss of 38 jobs, and was sold for more than €540,000.

The new owner of the 47,000-square-foot building is Time Lane Limited, with a registered address at Derryloughaun, Spiddal, Co Galway.

The company was established only early last month and it’ll be involved in the treatment and disposal of non-hazardous waste.

The sole director of Time Lane is Seán Curran, the managing director and founder of Barna Recycling, which employs more than 250 people in facilities in Galway, Roscommon, Athlone and Leitrim.

Barna Recycling declined to comment and efforts to contact Curran were unsuccessful, but Áine McDermott, the PRO of Ballaghaderreen Chamber of Commerce, welcomes the news.
