Ballaghaderreen Cathedral won’t open for Christmas services due to refurb

St Nathy’s Cathedral in Ballaghaderreen will not now open for Christmas because of the major refurbishment project that’s under way.

In October, Kilcawley Construction, from Sligo, began construction work on a development that’ll cost €1.4 million.

The essential project on the listed building, which was built in the 1850s, will include roof and pipe repairs and a general redecoration.

The cathedral will be closed until March, with Masses held in the chapel in St Nathy’s College nearby, but it was intended to open it for the Christmas period.

However, Brendan Henry, the managing director of Kilcawley Construction, says that’s won’t now be the case.
