Ballagh solicitor quits as Council for the West chairman

A Ballaghaderreen solicitor currently under investigation by the Law Society has stepped down as chairman of Council for the West.

Proceedings are ongoing under way in the high court over allegations that Declan O’Callaghan overcharged some clients on legal fees.

Mr O’Callaghan is involved in several well-known organisations in west Roscommon and this afternoon the Council for the West has confirmed he is no longer its chairman.

It’s understood he has stepped down in the past few days.

Council for the West is an independent organisation, comprising representation of the main churches, businesses and community activists.
