Athlone drowning victim was popular Lecarrow farmer

The south Roscommon man who drowned in Athlone on Sunday night has been named locally.

Trevor Brennan, a farmer from Lecarrow, was on a festive night out with friends when tragedy struck.

According to the Irish Daily Star, he was on the phone calling a taxi when he slipped and fell into the Shannon at Quay Wall at about 11.20pm. The 34-year-old was brought to Portiuncula University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3am.
