Towns and villages in Leitrim and Roscommon are celebrating after this year’s Pride of Place awards.
Athleague was the overall winner in its category of up to 300 residents, with Fenagh Village, Co Leitrim a runner up.
Ballinahown was a runner in in the 300 to 1,000 population category with Boyle was also a runner up in the 1,000 to 2,000 population category.
Pride of Place, which is an all island award, recognises not just the appearance of a town and village but the strong sense of community and communal effort in bringing people together.
Michael Hourican from the Athleague 2020 project group, says while judges recognised their work after large scale flooding in 2009, they are very much looking to what’s in development right now.
