Anger at hoax bomb scare in Roscommon school

Gardai are to launch an investigation after a hoax bomb scare at St Nathy’s College in Ballaghaderreen this morning.

The school was evacuated after Gardai received a phone call alerting them to a suspect device at the school.

St Nathy’s College has an enrolment of over 650 students from Roscommon, Mayo and Sligo.

Parents of pupils received text messages around half past eight this morning advising them that the school was closing due to unforeseen circumstances.

Gardai and fire services were called to the premises and after a search confirmed that it was a hoax bomb scare.

Gardai will begin investigations into the incident.

Local councillor Michael Mulligan says it’s caused a lot of upset in the town and should not have happened.
