An amenity area at Lake O’ Flynn in west Roscommon has been damaged by fire this week.
Roscommon Chief Fire Officer John Keane has confirmed that one of the fires they tackled this week was on the bogland which is near Lake O’ Flynn and Ballinlough.
A looped walk has been developed in recent years for cyclists and walkers with a number of information boards about the biodiversity in the local area.
John Keane says the fire service sent a drone up this week around Lake O’ Flynn to assess the damage.
The fire officer says it’s another example of the serious destruction that can happen to wildlife and floras when a bog fire takes hold.
