New figures show the Revenue Commissioners has seized nearly 6,000 cigarettes and 5 kilograms of tobacco in the Shannonside region this year.
More than €440,000’s worth of illegal drugs have also been discovered by the tax and customs agency in the border, midlands and west region in 2018.
Details released under the Freedom of Information legislation show Revenue has seized 2,800 cigarettes and 4.5 kilograms of tobacco in Roscommon this year.
In Leitrim, 1,200 cigarettes and 120 grams of tobacco was seized, while in Longford, more than 1,800 cigarettes were raided.
Other goods were also taken from the owners by Revenue this year, including nine litres of alcohol in Roscommon and nearly eight litres in Longford.
While no seizures of alcohol were made in Leitrim this year, 1,000 litres of oil was raided by the tax and customs agency.
A total of 22 vehicles were also seized by Revenue in the Shannonside region this year – eight in both Roscommon and Longford and six in Leitrim.
Meanwhile, in the border, midlands and west area, which includes the Shannonside counties, almost €441,000’s worth of drugs have been seized.
The vast majority of that – €357,000 – was made up of cannabis herb, oil or resin, while cocaine with a value of €84,000 was also seized.
