There’s welcome in the Roscommon region for the announcement that a service level agreement has finally been agreed for a second air ambulance base in Cork.
The development means that the air ambulance currently based at Custume Barracks in Athlone won’t have to cover the south of the country anymore and will be able to respond to more emergencies in the western and midlands region.
The current ambulance service was established in 2012 and is credited with saving countless lives since then.
The new air ambulance in Cork will be operated by the Irish Community Rapid Response charity.
Former Hospital Action Committee Chairman in Roscommon John Mc Dermot who is now a member of the Rapid Response group says it’s a very welcome development for this region.
